Start your engines. The holiday season has officially begun! With the upcoming shopping frenzy surrounding Black Friday and gift buying, it is one of the most important times of the year to avoid glitches like the ones below:

Outages Hit British ISPs, Virgin Media and Sky, on the Same Day

November 19, 2019 | UK

Thousands of Downdetector reports indicated that Virgin Media, a British ISP, experienced a widespread outage. While their broadband internet wasn’t itself affected, visitors to the company’s website were unable to log in or access their accounts. On the same day, Sky actually suffered a country-wide outage, with hundreds of irked customers venting their irritation on Twitter.

Snapchat Glitch Disables Logins

November 17, 2019 | Global

Users of the popular social media platform were dismayed to learn that they were unable to log in to the service. Although Snapchat has been regaining popularity lately after slumping for a year or two, repeated outages will not endear it to users – the app went down again on November 26.

November 13, 2019 | Global

Launch-Day Outage Plagues Disney+

November 12, 2019 | Worldwide

If you’re launching a new streaming service amidst global competition, it’s best not to have your servers go down on launch day. Unfortunately for Disney+, that’s exactly what happened – even after months of preparation, a sudden influx of new users overwhelmed the streaming app.

Lol? Valentine’s Day Texts Arrive Months Later – to Much Confusion

November 8, 2019 | Worldwide

Here’s a glitch for the books. On Valentine’s Day 2019, millions of people sent messages to their loved ones that were never received. On November 8, 2019, those messages all arrived in mass confusion. Some individuals received belated V-day texts from people that they’d already broken up with – or had since passed away.

It’s Been a Bad Month for Enjoying Video Games

November 4 – 6, 2019 | Global

We’d normally do a single entry for each of these outages, but since they happened so close together and in such rapid succession, it made more sense to combine them. Essentially, over a three-day period, servers for some of the world’s most popular game studios – Riot Games, EA, and Blizzard – toppled one after the other. It’s enough to make you wonder if breaches are contagious.

Customers Alarmed by Bank of America Lockout

October 30, 2019 | US

On the day before Halloween, thousands of Bank of America customers reported that they were locked out of both mobile and browser-based online banking applications. Although the bank reported that the outage only lasted an hour, this was long enough for Downdetector to accumulate nearly 10,000 reports. The bank said the outage was caused by “a technology-related issue.”

This holiday season we’re pleased to be able to help companies avoid glitches and serve their customers! If you want to make sure that your organization doesn’t end up on this tracker, learn how automated anomaly detection can keep your platforms running smoothly.
